PMSNC SCHOLARSHIP AWARD PROGRAM
In 1986, The Philippine Medical Society of Northern California approved the Scholarship Award
Program proposal presented by Dr. Lourdes Olivares-Agcaoili. Immediately thereafter, she
launched a successful fund-raising drive to establish three $1,000 scholarship awards for three
deserving Filipino American students in their pursuit of a doctoral college degree in the schools of
medicine, dentistry and pharmacy. A panel of medical professionals from various disciplines of
specialty chose the recipients. The criteria for eligibility were: 1.) financial need and 2) scholastic
rating. It was decided by the Scholarship Committee and the PMSNC assembly that after 1989,
the eligible applicants will be limited to medical students only from the 3 medical schools in
Northern California, i.e. UC San Francisco, UC Davis and Stanford University. In 1990, Dr. Jose
Rodriguez initiated the establishment of the PMSNC Scholarship Endowment Fund, whereby the
principal is kept intact and 80% of the dividends are allocated to the three $1000.00 scholarship
awards

Also, as a tribute to the late Dr. Felix Agcaoili, 1982 Past President of the PMSNC, the general
assembly voted to designate one of the scholars, each year, the "Dr. Felix Agcaoili Memorial
Scholar". The Felix Agcaoili Memorial Fund donated $27,430 towards the Scholarship endowment
Fund, making the $50,000 goal possible.

In 2004, the general assembly voted to designate one of the scholars, each year, the "Dr. Jose
Rodriguez Scholar".
